Even after 30 years in and around the computing industry, this book taught me things I didn't know about what computing is, when all the familiar abstractions are stripped away and the bare code is exposed. I ordered the latest edition even though I don't particularly need to learn at the level Duntemann is teaching.

To ask other readers questions about Assembly Languageplease sign up. That said, bit PCs are now all over the place, and there's an issue involving the nature of an executable code file. Generate a bit executable file, azsembly will run on either a bit or a bit PC. I'll discuss this issue in more detail below.

I enjoy his writing and wanted to see how he updated the book to deal with LINUX and modern x86 assembly language. It takes assemly until the very end of Chapter 5 to start actually teaching assembly. I don't have a technical background so I needed to learn from the ground up with some hand holding along the way.
